Heather Hayden, LCMFT, CST

Hey, I’m Heather (they/them).

I am an intense, direct, eclectic, neurodiverse, and queer human, who loves nature, hiking, paddleboarding, pets, pickleball, board games, reading, fantasy, sci fi, coffee, plants, traveling, and food.

I feel very honored to work with other marginalized folx, diverse cultural backgrounds, diverse religious or non-religious backgrounds, and diverse relationship orientations. I celebrate geekiness, creativity, renegades, neurodivergence, all body weights, all abilities, body positivity, and anyone whose lifestyle or identity is counter-culture.

I work hard to create a trauma informed, authentic, nonjudgmental, safe environment. I incorporate humor, laughter, somatic interventions, and evidence-based practices in our sessions. Compassion is critical in healing, and there will be times where you see and feel mine as you process difficult thoughts, feelings, sensations, and experiences. If you are committed to making changes that allow you to become the best version of yourself, it’s very possible we will be a good fit.

Education and Training

For those who like to know about my qualifications:

I received my Bachelor’s Degree in Organizational Leadership and Transformational Change from Friends University. In 2016, I received my Master’s Degree of Science in Marriage and Family Therapy from Friends University in 2019.

I am an AASECT Certified Sex Therapist with extensive training in gender identity, sexuality, and alternative relationship orientations.

In addition, I have specialized training in the Crucible Approach, I-CBT, Exposure Response Therapy, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, parts work, and polyvagal theory (list is not exhaustive).

I am a Kansas Board approved Clinical Supervisor; I also provide trainings and consultations.

I hold memberships with WPATH, AAMFT, and AASECT.

I describe myself as an academic late bloomer. Prior to becoming a clinician and working in private practice, I wore many professional hats from being in management with a plumbing and electrical chain, cosmetology, materials planning, and project management. I finally realized my professional life dream in 2019.
